DRY FLY: PALE MORNING DUN (PMD) DRY FLY (3 FLIES).
The traditional tie of the Pale Morning Dun, or PMD. Pale Morning Duns are an important mayfly hatch for anglers. PMD's imitate the mayflies Ephemerella inermis (newly renamed excrucians) or Ephemerella infrequens. The former is more common and can be imitated with flies in sizes 16, 18 or 20. The hatch occurs roughly from June-August depending on your locality, and typically happens from mid-morning to early afternoon. Have a good supply of nymphs, emergers, cripples and adults since the trout can be very selective to stages of the hatch and the size of the imitation.
