BURNT SPEY HACKLE (Approx. 20)

Burnt Spey Hackle is actually a goose shoulder feather that has been dipped in a bleach solution and "burnt" so that the barbules don't stick together as they naturally do. This separation of the hackle fibers gives your spey fly that beautiful flowing look that you see in the presentation grade flies tied with the now illegal heron hackle. These Burnt Spey Hackle need to be soaked, steamed or crimped before tying.

FLY TYING TIP: We like to put Burnt Spey Hackles between layers of hot, damp towels and let them soften up, rather than soaking them in hot water as many recommend: What a mess! They are available in white and several beautifully dyed colors.
